Runehack Reading Guide

While the topic does have its own tag on my blog, I figured I should make a single page to serve as an overview of all the articles I've written on the Runehack, with guidelines on how to read through them.

What's Runehack?

A fantasy setting that has studied its simple magical system so much, that to them it's now a science of natural laws. Through the runes, they have invented technology without ever using electricity. This technology includes their own version of computers, smartphones, the internet, various virtual realities, robots, and more.

Original concept - This was my initial description of this setting, nowadays I'd say it's partially outdated.
Setting primer - The current setting primer for the world of Runehack.

City Lore

To develop the world further, I am in the process of writing a series of articles on the various countries (for the most part city-states) of this world.
  • New Prista - An average modern city to serve as a baseline for what's average in the world overall.
  • Avurai University - The most prestigious university in the world that happens to be located on a flying island.
  • Helethon* - A city populated by people with and without superpowers. The superpowered peoplevigilantes and villainsfight each other a lot.
  • Jewelstake - A desert city built around an evergrowing pillar of natural glass, that started based on the longest ongoing bet in history.
  • Timberhaven - A city of fairies located inside a tall woman-shaped tree.
  • Wineholm - An isolated island populated by arunic people unfamiliar with runetech, which happens to also be visited by ghosts from another realm.
  • Everling - An illusory city floating at the bottom of the ocean that houses scans of the mind scans with the intent of preserving them alive forever.

Other Lore

Beyond the descriptions of cities, I also wrote a bunch of articles that can kinda stand on their own.

Games and Media

These are the games and media I've produced that are based on Runehack's lore.

  • Runehack: University's Pillars - A solo journalling dice-stacking tabletop roleplaying game, in which you balance your university life as a student at Avurai University.
  • Runehack: Fairy Heist - A tactical sneak and steal roleplaying game, in which you play as a group of fairies breaking into the big folk's houses.
  • Runehack: The Asterist - A game about the ghosts of Everling who can hack their world through a unique dice-linking mechanic.

Articles will be added in eventually as I write more of them. Until then, thank you for reading, and have a nice day!
